Kevin Dillon, a former judge, district attorney, and criminal defense lawyer passed away on January 7 at the age of 65 after a long illness. Dillon was a well-respected lawyer and judge in the region. Noted criminal defense attorney Paul Cambria spoke to WBFO about Dillon’s passing and legacy. Dillon’s legacy as attorney and judge
Dillon came from what WBFO calls a “distinguished legal family”. Like his father, Mike Dillon, he became Erie County district attorney and, subsequently, was named a State Supreme Court judge. According to WBFO, Dillon, along with his law partner Mark Mahoney, may be best known for representing “.22 Caliber Killer” Joseph Christopher.
Paul Cambria gave WBFO his recollection of his interactions with Dillon. “He was a really terrific judge,” Mr. Cambria said. “Thoughtful. Considerate. Very temperate, which is a premium these days. There are a lot of judges that lose their temper and so on. He wasn’t one of them. He was a fantastic guy. It’s such a shame we lost him so early.”
Mr. Cambria and Dillon knew each other for more than 40 years, WBFO reports. Although they were on opposite sides of several cases as criminal defense lawyer and district attorney, Mr. Cambria told WBFO that Dillon was always fair and had a deep understanding of the law.
