The Salvation Army has once again set up their downtown Toy Shop, an initiative that allows eligible families to select two toys per child up to age 12 as presents for the holidays. Michael Stuermer, a senior partner at Lipsitz Green Scime Cambria, is leading a toy drive to contribute to the Toy Shop for the sixth year in a row. Initiative provides more than just toys
The Salvation Army serves almost 34,000 people across the country every year, the Buffalo Law Journal reports, and that number increases during the holiday season both because of the cold weather and because of those hoping to be able to find gifts for their family. The Toy Shop, and the drives that contribute to it, provide community children in need with gifts that they would not have otherwise. These toy drives do not only help give area children presents to open; they also allow the Salvation Army to use and reallocate donor money for other causes in the community, such as food, medicine, and other programs and services for those in need. Over the past six years, Mr. Stuermer’s toy drive has become one of the Salvation Army’s largest toy drives in Buffalo.
Dedication and generosity provide for community
Mr. Stuermer has contributed to the cause for several years and is constantly becoming more aware of the dedication of those involved with the Salvation Army and the importance of its contributions to the community. Despite this dedication, and the generosity of Western New Yorkers, the Buffalo Law Journal reports that there are times when parents have been unable to find toys at the Toy Shop because of the sheer number of community members in need. Because of this overwhelming need, Mr. Stuermer continues to ask colleagues, friends, and family members to donate toys and to spread the word. “Our community rises to the challenge and generosity increases each year,” he says. “We hope to have even more donations this year.”
How to donate
Mr. Stuermer’s goal for this year’s toy drive is to ensure that every parent is able to go home with a toy for their child. The Salvation Army is usually in need of baby toys and toys for boys and girls aged 10-12, but all donations are greatly appreciated. The toy drive at Lipsitz Green Scime Cambria runs through the morning of December 4.
