Attorney Amy C. Keller, of Lipsitz Green Scime Cambria, recently obtained a $65 million jury verdict for her client, who was sexually abused as a child by a former YMCA counselor.
In a front-page story, The Buffalo News reported that the $65 million award is the third significant jury verdict Ms. Keller has obtained this year, on behalf of her clients who were victims of childhood sexual abuse. In recent months, Ms. Keller has also obtained a $30 million jury verdict on behalf of a client abused by a Lutheran pastor and a $25 million jury verdict on behalf of a client abused by a former Boy Scout leader. All three cases were reported as the largest award obtained in Western New York for a case filed under the Child Victims Act, at the time the verdicts were rendered.

$4 Million Settlement Obtained for Pedestrian Injured by Distracted Driver
William P. Moore recently obtained a $4 million settlement on behalf of his client, a pedestrian, who was injured due to the negligence of a distracted driver.
Accident Caused by Distracted Driver
Mr. Moore’s client, who was a college student at the time of the accident, was walking to her vehicle after an afternoon class. As she attempted to cross the street at a designated crosswalk, a distracted driver pulled forward and struck her.
Pedestrian’s Injuries
As a result of the collision, the college student suffered multiple injuries, including a traumatic brain injury. Despite extensive treatment, the student was able to return to school and attain her degree. When asked about the case, Mr. Moore stated “while this result will allow my client to move beyond this chapter of her life, I am most proud of my client’s resilience and determination to not allow her physical limitations to deter her recovery or lofty career goals.”

$30 Million Jury Verdict Obtained in Child Victims Act Case

In a front page story, The Buffalo News reported that the $30 million jury verdict is believed to be the largest award in Western New York for a case filed under the Child Victims Act.
The Child Victims Act lawsuit was filed against Rev. Douglas D. Thore, who served as pastor of St. Nicodemus Evangelical Lutheran Church, located in Marilla, NY, from approximately 1984 to 2004. Thore resigned from his post as a Lutheran pastor when Erie County sheriff’s deputies investigated him due to allegations of child molestation.
